Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official said the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
